There’s a map here. You can see the topography of the sea bed. Rockall Bank is huge, but Rockall itself is the only tiny bit still above sea level.
In between Rockall Bank and the European Continental Shelf lies Rockall Trough which is about a mile deep. The Gulf Stream runs North Easterly along the trough and the temperature rose significantly when the Scouse Mouse passed into the deeper water.
